Chocolate Date Bars

Total Time: 35 mins Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 20 mins

Ingredients

  • 125 g margarine
  • 1 cup plain flour
  • 1 cup dates
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda (bi carb)
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa

Recipe

  • 1 place dates in a microwave proof jug with water.
  • 2 cook for 3 minutes on high.
  • 3 cream the margarine and sugar.
  • 4 add the hot date mixture and beat well.
  • 5 add the flour, cocoa and soda.
  • 6 bake in a greased square slab tin (7 x 7") 200°c for 15-20 minutes.
  • 7 leave in tin to cool then cut into bars.
  • 8 hint: delicious if topped with a lemon icing while still warm.
