Aunt Georgia's Gumdrop Cake

Ingredients
- 2 cups butter or 2 cups margarine
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 4 eggs
- 4 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon allspice
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 2 cups applesauce
- 2 cups gumdrops
- 1 cup nuts, chopped (optional)
Recipe
- 1 remove black gumdrops if you don't like them (i use them). toss gumdrops in a little flour before using. this keeps them from dropping to the bottom of the cake.
- 2 warm the applesauce in the microwave until just a bit hot, not really hot. stir in the baking soda and allow it to dissolve. allow to cool a bit.
- 3 cream together: butter/margarine, sugars and eggs. mix in applesauce with baking soda.
- 4 in separate bowl, combine flour, allspice, cinnamon and baking powder. add to creamed mixture along with floured gumdrops and nuts and stir in until incoporated.
- 5 grease two loaf pans or one bundt pan (9 inches at least). add batter and bake in preheated 300 degree oven for 1.5 to 2 hours until done. cake is done when a toothpick inserted in center comes out with little specks of cake, but not doughy.
