Caramel Bars

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 1/2 cups oatmeal (either kind)
- 1 cup butter (melted) or 1 cup margarine (melted)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 (14 ounce) bag caramels
- 8 tablespoons milk or 8 tablespoons cream
- 1 cup chocolate chips
Recipe
- 1 mix above ingredients together (flour through baking soda) and press into bottom of 9 x 13" cake pan. reserve about 1 1/3°c of crumbs for top.
- 2 bake at 350 degrees for 10 - 15 minutes (i bake for 10 minutes) until light brown.
- 3 meanwhile: unwrap and melt 1 bag of caramels with 8 tbs. of cream (i use milk) in microwave on medium - low temperature
- 4 sprinkle 1 - 1 1/4°c chocolate chips over baked crust (no need to cool) and pour caramel mixture over top.
- 5 add reserved crumbs by sprinkling over and bake at 350 degrees for 15 - 20 minutes (i bake for 15 minutes) more.
- 6 cool before cutting.
